Billowing smoke from a Monday-morning fire at the Amethyst Lodge drew a large crowd on Connaught Drive but no one was injured in the blaze and the damage was limited to just one room, according to the Jasper Fire Department.
Fire Chief Greg Van Tighem said members were dispatched to the hotel at approximately 11 a.m. to find a “second-floor room fully involved.”
The hotel was evacuated and a team of 18 firefighters and three trucks was able to get the blaze under control by 11:50 a.m.
As of press time, the investigation into the cause of the fire was still underway and Van Tighem could not say how it started.
There were no injuries to hotel staff, guests or firefighters, Van Tighem said. |
